Before I go down for good there is work

to do. Applying sanded grout to joints,

spreading grey adhesive like putty

upon clay tiles baked by Italy’s sun.

Fitting them like jigsaw puzzle pieces

Smooth the cool surface with my hand.

Yes, that is fine, worth putting feet upon.

Now I am ready to burrow like a worm.
