The Population Control Climate
Climate science has emerged at a unique moment in history. Moral vanity has embraced the possibilities of social media. So far it is love at first sight. To understand the full agenda of Organized Climate, however, it’s necessary to travel down the progressive rabbit hole to see how their climate crusade provides cover for another pet project: population control.
Those progressives threw themselves a shindig this month at the Paris Climate Conference, claiming victory over the evil “deniers” of climate science. Representatives of about 190 nations agreed to agree on something they all agreed upon before they jetted into the City of Lights. What they couldn’t agree on was who would pay for lowering the carbon-emission boogeyman.
Which is akin to deciding to buy a house but neglecting to get commitments on money for the purchase. No matter, the Gore Squad still fêted themselves upon their hard-won accomplishment of conquering climate unicorns and weather fairies in Paris. Using its urgent countdown press releases (“96 months to oblivion…”) the carbon killers will now pummel dissidents who cheekily raise real scientific arguments instead of Darryl Hannah agitprop.
The reason the treaty only works in the media’s fevered imagination, not the real world, was clear before the delegates (including Justin Trudeau between Vogue shoots) brought their Birkenstocks to the Bastille. Nations with emerging economies such as India and China want no part of suppressing their growth to satisfy Naomi Klein.
Their primary goal is to bring millions of their citizens out of poverty by giving them abundant cheap energy. The goal of the Paris pow-wow, however, was not poverty but to dramatically boost the price of all those cheap sources of energy — coal, natural gas and other fossil fuels — in lieu of hyper-expensive alternatives such as solar and wind (the glitter twins of the enviros). While the West, roiling in liberal guilt, denies itself cheap energy, India, China and other third world nations unapologetically supply their citizens something other than peat or dung to burn for warmth and power.
In case you’re unsure what that means to the Paris Accord, understand that India has a Minister of Coal. Who recently extended a one-finger salute to those sophisticated countries that think Leonardo DiCaprio is a climate expert. India will use all the coal it wants: triple its current output by 2030.
This impertinence from India, who serious people like David Suzuki seek to protect from themselves, presents progressives with a dilemma. Should they pour out their empathy on the poor of India or instead bend at the knee to Gaia, the Earth Mother? While the economic benefits of upgrading the poor are tangible, the promised results from Paris are a wish wrapped in a hope and coated with maybe sauce — 80 years from now.
You’re thinking this would be an easy choice. But you’d be wrong. Because in their hearts, the eco warriors believe that any choice between Gaia and Goa wouldn't be necessary if there weren’t so darned many Indians. Can we not get Planned Parenthood over there to thin the crowds?
While population control doesn’t get the media pub of climate confusion, rest assured it’s bedrock for the eco warriors. That’s why the Malibu crowd was giddy when China instituted its disastrous one-child policy (now rescinded). That only left the brown people breeding out of control. If the Paris polar bear flim-flam translated into higher energy prices it might just be enough to encourage Indians to stop breeding with such alacrity. And if they don’t… well, the Ganges can always take a few more bodies.
This cold-blooded calculus surprises some media types. Yet for all their advertised sensitivity, progressives have never been squeamish about culling the herd. The early feminist heroes wanted nothing to do with women of colour or mental defectives — preferring lobotomy and deportation. The current feminist icons are content that so many poor and minority women avail themselves of abortion.
The climate devotees, when really pushed, will tell you that, if a few Indians have to go to Vishnu so they can organize a new world order under their stewardship, so be it. What’s most important is that everyone do the same things as them. As former congressman Dick Armey observed, liberals don’t care what you do so long as it’s mandatory.
That’s why progressives avoid this line of logic like the plague. Racial insensitivity is not a pretty face, which is why the Mod Squad prefers the sunnier climes of climate activism on their business card. But make no mistake, in the rush to create world governments to run your life, population control follows global warming just as surely as Ban Ki Moon follows Al Gore.
