“And They Tell Me You Are Crooked, And I Answer: Yes, It Is True…”
It’s been a tough season for the Left’s proponents of social justice and their media Church Ladies. They keep telling people how virtuous they are. And events keeping saying, In a pig’s eye.
You can’t turn on your laptop or TV without seeing their latest pop idol, congresswoman Alexandria Cortez Ocasio, like, extoll the virtues of, like, being fair to all the people, like. Her passionate climate appeals to save the earth before it immolates is boilerplate progressive-looking-out-for-the-little-guy.
While she’s been preaching to the crowd, however, it’s become inescapable that the fairness movement AOC champions is riddled with its own privilege. From Jussie Smollett’s wrist tap to the Varsity Blues admissions scandal to the refusal of Democrats to accept the findings of Robert Mueller’s investigation of Donald Trump, progressives now illustrate Victor Hugo’s observation that “Being good is easy, what is difficult is being just.”
Anyone familiar with the cesspool of Illinois politics will be unsurprised by Smollett— the black/ gay actor who cried wolf over an alleged racial/ homophobic attack— getting to walk in an investigation that gripped the nation. Forget that Chicago cops had built an airtight case that Smollett staged the entire incident to win a raise in his role on FOX TV’s show Empire.
When former Obama chief of staff Tina Tchen placed a call to Kim Foxx, the State’s Attorney, asking for a little love for Jussie you knew the fix was in. Foxx’s effervescent replies made clear that Jussie was going to get the comfy-chair punishment (“I make no guarantees. But I’m trying”) If you value your job in the state of Illinois, when the Obama machine says jump, you say “I can fly!”
Even Foxx’s assistant admitted that Smollett was guilty as charged, (“It’s a mistake,” said Joseph Magats, “We didn’t exonerate him.”) But Foxx’s office— she recused herself when her emails with Tchen came to light— decided, without informing police officials or the Chicago mayor, to allow Smollett to skate with forfeiting his $10 K bond and performing community service stuffing envelopes for Jesse Jackson. (There’s now some debate whether the documents have been sealed permanently.)
Even for a city so irredeemably corrupt as Chicago, this produced indignation from the police, media and the overtaxed populace. Remarkably it also prompted mayor Rahm Emmanuel— an Obama loyalist— to decry privilege in liberal ranks. Hizzoner linked Jussie’s privilege in walking free to that of the blue-stocking liberals who bought their children tickets to high education .
An unrepentant Smollett then lied to the media one last time, swearing on his Momma that he’d never do exactly what everyone knows he’s done. No wonder poet Carl Sandburg noted in his famous poem on the city: “And they tell me you are crooked, and I answer: Yes, it is true…”
While Chicago cronyism put justice in doubt in the Windy City, deflated Democrats in Washington were contemplating Seneca’s admonition “Auditur et altera pars. (The other side shall be heard as well.)” after the release of Robert Mueller’s long-awaited report on Russian interference in the 2016 election and— most crucial— president Donald Trump’s role in abetting that interference.
From the moment shocked anti-Trump/ NeverTrump actors in the Obama Administration and media promoted an attempt to disqualify their 2016 electoral drubbing there has been agreement that Mueller would deliver them from the dread TV reality show host. He was the real deal, Joe Friday just-the-facts. No one else could explain the failure of Hillary Clinton to hold the White House was caused by a vast, complicated conspiracy between Vladimir Putin and Trump.
For much of the 22 months since Mueller was given his assignment, the Left assured itself that here was an unflinching arbiter who would connect the far-flung dots of meetings with Russians and transfers of money. A dogged media led by CNN, MSNBC, the New York Times, the Washington Post and new players like Buzzfeed was telling them that damning evidence dangled like low-hanging fruit for the crack investigators of Team Mueller.
The conviction was magnified by former CIA director John Brennan and Intelligence head James Clapper assuring cable-news devotees that indictments would rain from the skies against Trump, his family and friends. While they couldn’t say why they knew, the pair had likely seen all the evidence before leaving office, right?
And the obstruction from Trump and his inner circle! Jesus take the wheel, it was going to be sweet. Mueller’s convictions of Trump cronies on marginal, non-election charges was just the appetizer to a feast of retribution against POTUS 45.
Then, this past weekend the righteous wrath of the Left was blunted on the rock presented by Mueller in his conclusions. No collusion. And, in the view of AG Bill Barr, no obstruction. All for naught the Spanish Inquisition. https://newrepublic.com/article/153396/give-up-democrats-russia-investigation-over
Predictably, the unimpeachable sleuth entrusted with destroying Trump was suddenly a bumbling Javert, unable to deliver the goods so desired by Trump haters everywhere. They demanded Mueller’s entrails to pick through for assurance that justice had been ignored. Something will turn up to eliminate the dread Trump. (Sadly for the Church Ladies that something may be DOJ/ IG indictments against their former heroes in the Obama sphere.)
In short, justice is not justice unless the SNL crowd get what they want. But what do you expect from people who wanted you to believe Brett Kavanaugh was a sex fiend, Jamal Khashoggi was a journalist and the Saudis hacked Jeff Bezos’ private emails? Their reply came in th form of collapsed TV ratings at CNN/ MSNBC the moment lisiteners discovered they’d be fed a two-year diet of bull.
Perhaps it might be best right now for the AOC Left to stop talking fr once and to heed the words of Thucydides: “In a democracy, someone who fails to get elected to office can always console himself with the thought that there was something not quite fair about it.”
