Conservatives Take The Constitution Seriously. Progressives Take Government Seriously.Feel Free To Mock Them
Ah, the Oscars. Tinseltown never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity. Lost in Beatty’s Bungle-O-Rama (live TV!) was a more telling misstep. Host Jimmy Kimmel orchestrated a stunt where a bus-full of tourists was ushered into the auditorium to gawk at the perfect people.
It might have been a good skit for Kimmel’s late-night hipster show. But what was meant to be comic relief instead exposed the same old liberal tintinitis. The goobers from flyover America were paraded for the amusement of the stars in their $100 K gowns and with $25 K gift bags. The Meryl Streep humanists were ever so amused at their cleverness. Ever see the French satire Le Diner de Cons? Yeah. like that.
Worse, it mocked the compassionate political message Holy-Wood drones on about at these events. Imagine if these empathy queens had actually invited a group of Syrian immigrants or illegal aliens into the auditorium and sat them in the front rows? Then surrendered their goody bags to them? And their free cookies and candies? Then escorted them past security to a post-Oscar parties?
Imagine the stories, the viz, the buzz. But it never occurred to the celluloid virtue seekers that their show ’n tell was anything but a parable about their down-to-earth bonafides. To put lipstick on the pig they then applauded a heated statement from an Iranian director (Iran executes gays, abuses women) and an actor from Mexico (whose drug cartels target Americans).
Their need to be taken seriously was the point of the exercise. The only point.
If it wasn’t immediately obvious, the best way to hurt a progressive is to not take them seriously. There is no laughing in the progressive movement. The quest to redeem the world from itself is serious, serious business. Theirs is a grim mission. And everyone must be as obsessed as they are with their mirthless pursuit of more government.
Conservatives take the Constitution seriously. Progressives take government seriously.
In short, progressives can’t let Trump win, because he mocks their solemn purpose. His history of selling ties, steaks, water, hotels and golf resorts is profoundly unserious to them, a waste of critical energy that should be used on global warming or trans-gendered bathrooms or bills so complicated no one knowns what’s in them till the bill is passed..
That’s why Donald Trump drives them crazy. He has no respect for their mania for government. Their arcane rules for media. Their single-minded insistence that everything in life is political. He sees so much of the stuff liberals adore as time wasting. He loves to thumb his nose at their desperate pretension.
They obsess over small details. He breezily operates on a postal-code accuracy. They play insider baseball over polling and research. He laughs off the ebbs and flows of approval ratings. They follow media panels with a fanaticism bordering on religion. He… well, he watches the panels too. But sees very different messages in them.
They loved Obama’s intricately contrived speeches, his attention to talking points and well-honed clichés about government as Big Brother. They’re driven to distraction by Trump’s wandering stem-winders that blend media bashing with a juvenile sense of humour.
When you take everything seriously the way Progressives do, reducing the precious layers of mind-numbing governance is unthinkable.
He’s just not serious enough. “Can’t you see that? He’s making fun of us!” Trump meanders from car crash to car crash without losing any oil. Doesn’t he know he’s supposed to join a monastery whenever he breaks the rules of Progressive Monopoly?
Transgendered washrooms are the perfect example of the progressive need for speed on every scintllila of the human condition. Fancying themselves in the mold of the Freedom Riders of the civil rights ‘60s, they’ve decided that where the 0.01 percent of Americans who are sexually transitioning pee represents a national outrage.
They say that America is split between right and left. But a more honest assessment would be that the split is between those who see absolutely everything politically versus those who feel politics is just one element in a well-rounded life. The left has spent every day since Nov. 8/ 2017 in a political frenzy. Trump has spent his time punking them.
After his State if the Union on Tuesday Donald Trump has the public’s ear again. The Hollywood folks? They still thinking mocking middle America is a cogent political agenda. How clever of them.
