The Energy Crisis Slip-Sliding Away During Covid-19 Obsession
You can be forgiven for wondering if your governments and their learned experts are able to chew gum and write bad law at the same time.
For instance, why do our Health® geniuses only have nifty colour code systems for #Covid-19? How come they don’t assign a perky colour code to tell us when the social cost of their virus obsession is dwarfed by the social, health, OD, suicide and educational impact of their actions?
You know why. Having scotched the initial rollout from Covid-19 a year ago their sole preoccupation now is to justify the lockdowns, masks and draconian police-state tactics they’ve used to wrestle the virus. And they’re counting on media to bury the lede.
You may do many things in Canada. But you cannot criticize the healthcare system. However capricious, wasteful and, yes, beneficent, it remains beyond the pale. Why? Because it is all that distinguishes us from Americans like Michael Moore who adore our rationed medicine. Without single payer we are just Minnesota. And that is too much for most Canadians to admit.
So, desperate politicians elected to mange the crisis have largely surrendered control of government to an unelected healthcare class who’ve been wrong about almost everything so far. As we wrote in March Justin Trudeau and his advisors have shifted the blame for the vaccine disaster to the naughty travelling public, absolving themselves of responsibility by punishing Canadians arriving back in the homeland with costly, arbitrary hotel quarantines.
While the running daily average of deaths the past three weeks in Canada from/ with Covid-19 is only about 30, the PM and premiers have redoubled their quarantine emergency into something like the leper scenes from Ben Hur. Because it’s you, not them, that is the culprit in a disaster that now sees Alberta and Ontario chasing the lockdown mirage a third time.
If awakened they’d recognize that the social cost mentioned earlier— the one without a sexy series if colour alerts— is now a far greater danger. An outcome that was avoidable says Covid-19 writer/ researcher Alex Berenson. “It is unquestionably true; by early April anyone looking hard at New York could see the lockdowns and other anti-Covid measures would be far more disruptive and dangerous than the virus itself.”
While our compliant media still dutifully regurgitate Covid positive statistics supplied by the “experts” in government, exasperated Canadians are at the brink of insurrection over closed schools, suicides, ODs, bankruptcies, failed businesses etc.
There seems little chance that premiers and their Health advisors are prepared to stop chasing R numbers. Like the WWI generals who thought the solution to trench warfare was more trench warfare, their solution is more Lockdown Theatre until enough vaccinations are done to stem the virus.
But the politicians and their apologists (“I’d love to be in one of those nice quarantine hotels”) may soon be jolted by an even bigger crisis brewing in early May. While media dozed and politicians procrastinated, the activist governor of Michigan has announced that the Enbridge Line 5 pipeline that supplies a large amount of eastern Canada via Sarnia with oil and gas from the West will be shut down on May 12.
The Enbridge Line 5 transports 540,000 barrels per day of natural gas liquids and crude oil from Alberta and Saskatchewan through Michigan to Sarnia. Among other things, the crude oils and natural gas liquids later become propane— a major source of industrial and private fuel in Quebec and Ontario. Having turned down the Energy East pipeline to guarantee supply, Trudeau and the rapacious energy consumers in eastern Canada now could face blackouts and disruptions of the energy supply’s chain.
The prospects are not bright. Michigan’s Supreme Court has approved the move to shutdown Enbridge Line 5. Gretchen Whitmer has said. “Enbridge has routinely refused to take action to protect our Great Lakes and the millions of Americans who depend on them for clean drinking water and good jobs.”
Citing the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico and spills from Enbridge Line 6B—part of the same Lakehead System— the Green lobby has made Line 5 a target. And Whitmer is listening. They predict impending spills to pollute Michigan’s Great Lakes shoreline and Ontario’s Manitoulin Island.
Vern Yu, Executive Vice President and President, Liquids Pipelines says Wait A Minute. “Line 5 remains safe, as envisioned by the 1953 Easement, and as recently validated by our federal safety regulator.” There have been close calls from dragged anchors but a planned new tunnel to protect the pipes is seeking approval.
Alberta Premier Jason Kenney has said a shutdown would be “devastating” on both sides of the border, while Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley and union leaders in the city have said refineries in the city could close, prompting layoffs.
Replacing the missing gas and oil will present an interesting paradox to the Woke politicians who said that Western Canada’s fossil fuels “are not in our culture”. Green energy cannot compensate yet, so will they turn to Saudi Arabia and Venezuela to fill the gap? Revenge is indeed a dish served cold.
Meanwhile Canada’s federal government— the one that can’t find time to balance the economic and social calamity with its virus obsession—is issuing PR fluff. “There is a lot at stake for our provinces, there is a lot at stake nationally, and, therefore, the federal government is watching this like a hawk,” Seamus O’Regan, the natural resources minister, said in a recent committee meeting.
Good luck finding coverage of this major confrontation in the media gorging on PCR positives and the futile cures mounted by governments in Canada. Our Health® experts are obsessed with taking their failed strategies to a punishing conclusion: Destroy the children.
