The Church Ladies Of The Obama Gang Are Not Your Grandfather's Democrats
The irony is rich. Former president Barack Obama has decided the situation in America is so grave (translation: his friends aren’t in charge) that he must go public about the secretive, clandestine Donald Trump presidency. “It is a vision that says the protection of our power and those that back us is all the matters even when it hurts the country."
This will come as news to David E. Sanger, the chief Washington correspondent for The N.Y. Times, best friend to Democrats. He described the Obama administration in 2013 as “the most closed, control-freak administration I’ve ever covered.” Hmm.
If you were exploring Mars for the past 40 years, you might wonder listening to Obama’s latest epistles if you’d come back to the same earth you left in the 1970s. Consider: When you departed this floating orb, the American left had been telling any young man that it was his patriotic duty to dodge military service by escaping to Canada or obtaining a medical deferment.
Those who followed their advice— or, like John Kerry dumped on the war machine upon return from service— were venerated in movies like Coming Home or Deer Hunter or in bitter songs such as Born In The USA. To be a pawn of the military machine was just so down-market.
Now imagine your surprise upon re-integration to discover that liberal media and online progressives are raking current president Donald Trump— for obtaining military deferments to avoid service. When you last saw the New York Times they were leaking the Pentagon Papers against the Viet Nam war.
But now they’re attacking Trump as “the picture of health” when he used bone spurs in his heels to obtain deferral. They quote him saying, “I thought it was another deal where politicians got us into a war where we shouldn’t have been in. And I felt that very strongly from Day 1.” The gall! The cowardice!
The flip-flop. People who said “Run away!” are now in high dudgeon over someone who did just that. What changed?
Well, there was sexual liberation, one of the hallmarks of liberal orthodoxy coming out of the 1960s. With the advent of the pill and the Roe v Wade decision making abortion legal in 1973, women were free to explore sexual freedom. Under the Playboy ethic of noted liberal Hugh Hefner, men were encouraged to satisfy those desires.
Fear Of Flying by Erica Jong coined the expression The Zipless Fuck. Movies couldn’t get enough of the swinger era, jamming their films with explicit sex. On TV, Sex & The City was a very explicit depiction of sex without commitment. Even porn went mainstream with Debbie Does Dallas and Deep Throat.
Everybody was free to do it. Or, as one future president said, ““you can do anything” to women “when you’re a star. “You can “grab them by the pussy.”
But— shazam— as you get back into earth’s gravity it’s like the Victorian era is suddenly back in fashion with progressives and feminists. The come-on that was once an invitation to explore Mr. Goodbar is suddenly seen as an assault on all women, an invasion of privacy. Trump’s randy behaviour in the years where Mr. Big and Samantha were winning Emmys is now a crime, according to the Church Ladies of the left.
His naughty attitude was so toxic that NBC fired its host Billy Bush— just for listening to such awful talk.
Wait, there’s more social dislocation. We mentioned the Pentagon Papers. Before you took off on your voyage to space, the left wing in America reviled the intelligence community. Leaking secrets and Hanoi Jane giving comfort to the enemy was exalted by the anti-war progressives.
Ditto excoriating the shadowy activities of the FBI under J. Edgar Hoover or the CIA operatives in Teheran or Central America. Remember how the Left raked Ronald Reagan for running guns to Central America?
Imagine your shock on hitting terra firma to discover that the Trump Resistance has suddenly got a crush on the spooks of the CIA and the G Men of the FBI. How’s that? As evidence emerges that people within the Obama intelligence/ police community are actively working to subvert a presidential election, the spoke-sheeple of Clinton Land are aghast at GOP committee people like Devin Nunes uncovering such behaviour.
Tweeted former Obama-era AG Eric Holder: “People must understand what is at stake by release of the bogus, contrived Nunes memo. It uses normally protected material and puts at risk our intell capabilities in order to derail a legitimate criminal investigation. This is unheard of- it is dangerous and it is irresponsible.”
This would be the same Eric Holder who shipped guns to Mexican gangs, guns that killed a U.S.peace officer, and was censured by Congress for refusing to produce documents that proved his ineptitude.
Wait, there’s more. You may remember Democrats were once big fans of controlling the borders of the nation. Their zeal went so far that Bill Clinton, the saint of the Democratic cause, funded building a wall across the Mexican border during his time as president. The luminaries of the left cause were equally sold on a wall to restrict illegal immigration.
Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, Chuck Schumer and oh-so-many more voted to fund a border wall as recently as five years ago. Now? President Trump’s border wall notions are cruel and inhumane as they separate families who’ve come to claim asylum or refugee status.
The cause of the Dreamers— American-born children of illegal immigrants— has supplanted all other issues. Why else would Senate minority leader Schumer headline his website with “I stand with dreamers”?
You might need Gravol for more than the motion sickness produced by re-entering the earth’s atmosphere. Here on the ground, the whiplash movements of liberals’ shifting values since Trump became president could be enough to send your stomach churning.
